The chirashi bowl is one of my favourite Japanese dishes. My usual go-to place is Aoki – well known for their high quality mazechirashi.
I was very intrigued by Tatsuya’s aburi version and went there for lunch yesterday.
I browsed through the menu and couldn’t find the famed bowl that made it to the top 5 chirashi bowls in Singapore . I checked with the waitress and understood from her that this is a specialty dish that is not in the menu. The aburi chirashi bowl is available in 2 sizes at $150 and $180. She recommended the larger size because the other one is a really small portion and even volunteered further information that the aburi chirashi bowl is specially popular amongst the Indonesian Tai Tais.
There is no doubt that Tatsuya does a very good chirashi bowl and I certainly did not expect less from a restaurant that imports their ingredients from the Tsukiji market. Besides the usual toppings like tuna & salmon, Tatsuya indulged with premium ingredients like caviar, uni, scallop, shrimp and even a thin slice of foie gras.
Overall – It is a delicious lunch but the price tag is a little too high. Perhaps I will go for the affordable bara chirashi ($35.9) next time…or maybe I should just stick with my fave Japanese restaurant, Aoki.
