THE Vietnamese restaurant in town with the longest queues. I later realized that the queues could be due to its popularity and ….. an inefficient process. You need to stand in one queue to get a table then go to another queue to order and pay.
The Wheelock branch was fully packed before noon.
The banh mi stand near the cashier. The baguettes looked plump and delish.
Fried prawn & pork rolls – The dish was greasy and no fresh greens were provided to complement the dish! Despite a full house situation, the small plate appeared on my table about 3 minutes after I was seated. No wonder it tasted like fast food.
Quang Style Egg Noodles with pork rib, prawn, fish cake & rice cracker - A lightly seasoned “mee pok” alike with fresh and rather tasty toppings (especially the thick fish cakes). Overall, decent but very forgettable. I tried this dish previously at a Vietnamese friend’s house. Let’s just say that the homemade version was wayyy tastier.
Classic iced coffee with condensed milk – A great cup of caffeine. I will grab one whenever I passed by Nam Nam in the future.
Overall, the Les Amis casual Vietnamese eatery managed to create a winning formula-
Localized Vietnamese food + good value set + central location + excellent SOP (read - compulsory spray of water as a finishing touch on the summer rolls before serving) = Long queues every day.
Nam Nam is great for a Vietnamese food novice but might be rather disappointing for a Vietnamese cuisine enthusiast.
