I had my most value worth fine dining experience ever in Trois Gourmands. The restaurant serves good French food in a non-intimidating fine dining ambience.
I introduced Trois to my friends visiting Saigon - Most of them love it so much that they returned for a second time in the same trip.
Trois is opened by Gils, a Frenchman living in Saigon. The restaurant is well reviewed in Trip Advisor, widely known for the generous use of truffles in its dishes.
The menu is extensive. For 2 pax, I recommend that you share the USD45 menu consisting of amuse-bouche, bread basket, 3 starters, 1 main, cheese platter and 2 desserts! What a mouthful – This would probably cost several times more in Singapore.
We started the dinner with a visit to the wine cellar. There is also a small cheese house outside the main restaurant if you are interested to see the wide variety of cheese offered in Trois. What an interesting start to dinner.
Truffle Ice-cream – Interesting but not something I would order if it’s on the menu.
The meat fared better than the crustacean. The latter tasted a little mushy to me.
Scallops and Mashed Potatoes with truffles – The best starter was the fresh and firm scallops.
It’s easy to get a truffle overdose by now. Almost all their dishes contained truffles.
This is FANTASTIC – Trois Gourmands offers a wide variety of cheese. It’s no surprise that one of their specialties is truffle cheese. :) They even offer to pack the remaining cheese for you if you can’t finish them in the restaurant.
My dining companion and I were so stuffed by then that we just wanted to order one dessert. However, the charming waitress coaxed us to try these two desserts and also offered to throw in some port wine to round off the night!
The service in Trois is excellent. The Vietnamese waitress was able to speak flawless English and was actually able to “connect” with the clients ! We really wanted to hire her to work for us then.
Overall - Trois Gourmands serves outstanding French food for the prices they charge. I definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone heading to Saigon.
