This is another overdue post but I will like to give a shout-out to a couple of fab restaurants I visited in my last Saigon trip.
This charming café is located at the far end of Nguyen Hue Street. The café was great for sandwiches, pasta and people watching of the bustling streets in D1.
Add: 41 Nguyen Hue St, District 1.
L’usine Le Loi
The second branch of the wildly popular L’usine Dong Khoi - The decor and vibe here were very similar to the main shop. The café was great for pretty cupcakes and a nice cuppa over long conversations.
Add: 70B Le Loi Boulevard, District 1.
Banh Xeo 46A
This Vietnamese crepe shop was featured by Anthony Bourdain in his show, No reservations. The now foreigner friendly (yes, English menus were available) restaurant served a decent rendition of one of my favourite Vietnamese snacks.
Add: 46A Dinh Cong Trang Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Bill Clinton ate in this shop when he visited Saigon some years back which explained Pho 2000′s tagline – Pho for the president! This is another commercialized chain restaurant but I liked the pho here more than the ones from the highly raved Pho Hoa!
Add: 1-3 Phan Chu Trinh (opposite Ben Thanh Market), District 1.
Cha Ca La Vong
My best find in the trip! Thanks to a friend who brought me there for lunch. I loved the “one dish” concept and the tantalizing smell of the fish/herb mixture.
Add: 3-5 Ho Xuan Huong, District 3.
An old favourite restaurant of mine but it’s the drinks that kept us going back over & over again.
Add: 71-75 Hai Ba Trung, District 1.
That’s all for now…..till the next trip to Saigon.
P.S. Twice is working on an exciting new initiative. You will hear more from us soon and in the meantime, keep reading and eat well.
